Bestower's Guild- Lockpick
CONTENTS:
The Bestowers Guilds of Dereth have been providing adventurers with Titles of note for a good while now. For the most part the titles have been focused on combat abilities and outside of the title the only reward given was a local area Message (Fletching, Cooking and Alchemy each got nifty hats as well).
I like the Bestowers Guild, and that is why I am giving them the spotlight here. As a place for players to showcase their non-combat skills. The first on the slate is Lockpick.
Found on Marae Lassel (yay! finally a new Dark Majesty quest!), Poachers and Brigands have been recruited by Darsida al-Qawa to find a skilled Locksmith to aid her in her endeavours.
Players hunting the hills and shores of Marae Lassel find a rare spawning note on the corpses of deceased Poachers and Brigands (brigands having a much lower drop rate). Along with the note, a LockSmith token is found on the corpse when a note is spawned.
Reading the note directs you to the Bestowers Guild Mistress- Darsida al-Qawa in Qalaba'r.
Speaking with Darsida before finding the note/token will yield you a normal response. Speaking with Darsida after finding the Note/Token will yield the beginning of the Quest!
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "Oh my! Are you a locksmith? Hmmm... I could take your word for it, but I would rather you prove it! I entrusted my dear friend with a token. He said he would pass word on to any who have lock smithing abilities he finds that I needed aid. Prove to me you are a locksmith! On the ground! Over there! Use that piece to fix the token I gave him. If you can do that, I will entrust you with my task."
Take the puzzle piece off the ground and attempt to complete the token. A Lockpick skill check is applied and a skill of 180+ is preferable to succeed.
Failure results in an inability to do the quest for 24 hours (the timer on the puzzle piece). Success results in a 1000 exp reward and the ability to continue with the quest.
You give Darsida al-Qawa a Repaired Locksmithing Token.
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "Excellent! You have proven your skills in good faith. I appreciate your patience with test. As you no doubt learned from my friend, I have a favor to request of you."
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "I so rarely am able to leave this tent save for when I return to my cottage for the evening. I was so overwhelmed here one day, that I had to sent a student of mine on an errand in my place. It was a mistake on my part to do so."
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "I fear something has happened to him for the errand was not a difficult one and he should have returned by now. I sent him to a Zharalim Library to retrieve some scrolls for the purposes of Lady Nuhmudira. Unfortunately, he has not returned and I can't help but feel responsible if something were to happen. I beg you aid him."
Darsida al-Qawa gives you Tenebrous Vault Chip.
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "Take this token. When you are prepared to journey, give me the token and I will transport you to the beginning of the library. Should you fail or for some reason need to escape, come back to me and speak with me. I will transport you back there up to two more times."
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "I see you are ready. Thank you brave locksmith."
Darsida al-Qawa whispers a few short spells and looks at you.
Darsida al-Qawa has transported you to the Tenebrous Vault.
The Tenebrous Vault was the former library of the Tenebrous Edge faction of the Zharalim, led by Hamud Ibn Rafik [who is now nothing more than a shadow pawn of Bael'zharon]. The design of the dungeon is similar to that of the Mage Academy. High walls with towering bookshelves lining them.
There are, inactuality, 2 quests involved in this dungeon. One intended for anyone with skill enough to complete the Locksmithing token, and one for those with a more advanced skill. The dungeon consists of many locked doors and chests. This is, afterall, a quest for lockpicking.
Challenge 1 (lockpick skill 180+): Find the Lost Student.
This challenge basically consists of the player picking locks, throwing switches, and opening chests to complete it. You start out in a great hall and branch off into smaller hallways and rooms. There is nothing of serious threat in this dungeon except for an occasional Human opponent (low level one) that can be easily dispatched. The Halls are trapped occasionally as well.Rough Design of Challenge: (West/North Wings)
- Pick first three doors to get to a lever operated door
- Pick side room door to gain access to lever. Open lever door.
- Pick 2 more doors.
- Find the Confused Student.
Confused Student tells you, "Ah! Another person! Lady al-Qawa must have recruited you. Thank you for finding me.. but I'm afraid I cannot leave.
Confused Student tells you, "Don't get me wrong, I would love to leave this place... but while looking for the scrolls the Lady requested, I lost my orb somewhere and cannot recall."
Confused Student tells you, "Please, help me find my orb so we can both leave this place!"
Backtrack to the arrival Hall (there is a lever in the room with the Confused Student to open the Lever door).
Take one of the other side wings and go through the same process of door picking and lever pulling. The North wing (Orb) is the same as the West wing (Student) so it should be not problem to get there.
In the last room, you will find a Bestower's Casting Orb.
Take the Orb back to the Confused Student.
You give Confused Student a Bestower's Casting Orb.
Confused Student tells you, "My orb! Thank you very much! Here, take these scrolls to Lady Darsida. I cannot bare to speak with her. I have disgraced myself and do not deserve to learn from her.. I'm not even sure if these are the correct scrolls."
Confused Student Gives you Zharalim Ritual Scrolls.
Confused Student has recalled.
-----------------------------
At this point, you can recall form the dungeon and complete the quest. However, doing so will not enable you to do the more difficult East wing of the dungeon for 24 hours as Darsida will not offer to portal you to the dungeon again.
-----------------------------
Challenge 2(Lockpick skill 310+): Nuhmudira's Ward
Should you decide to stay and complete the East wing, you have a challenge set for yourself.
The East wing is much larger than the West and North wings. The East wing is blocked by a large steel Door labeled as a Sturdy Reinforced Gate.
Similar to the west and north wings, you will have to pick several (much more difficult doors), run and pulled a few levers in addition to picking chests that contain keys for use on Key only doors.
This section of the dungeon is much more difficult to navigate in. It is filled with Mercanaries, Zharalim, and Tenebrous Edge Victors. The Final room is guarded by 6 T.E.V. and 1 Zharalim Champion (level 300).
Apparently Nuhmudira did not trust Darsida to handle the task on her own. Defeat the Zharalim and Champion. On the Champion is a "Roll of Tattered Parchment". Take this and recall out.
Once you have recalled out, return to speak with Darsida.
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "So did you find my student? Ah... I see, he thinks he disgraced my teachings by failing in there. I hope the boy does not take it to too much heart. Anyway, did he atleast give you the scrolls I requested?"
You give Darsida al-Qawa Zharalim Ritual Scrolls.
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "Hmm.. interesting, but not exactly what I was looking for. Anyway, thank you for your efforts. I appreciate you coming to the aid of my pupil. Take this in appreciation."
You recieve 150,000 exp.
Darsida al-Qawa gives you a trade note (75k note)
Darsida al-Qawa gives you a Writ of Refuge.Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "I suppose I will have to make time to go in there myself. That is unless you didn't find anything of interest?"
You give a Roll of Tattered Parchment.
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "Hmm.. so The Grey hag did not trust me to come through. There were others in the vault you say? I declare that old woman sinks deeper into the throes of insanity with each incantation she weaves... Empyreans indeed. I think it best she not see these writings."
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "Pardon my brooding. I do not like being taken for a fool. The information you brought to be today is more valuable than words can explain and I have not the resources to reward you."
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "Let me award you with a more appropriate title and allow me to give you access to my treasury in my home."
Standard Successful title clarion sounds, stating the player has been made an Obfirmo Dominus (Lock Master).
Darsida al-Qawa has granted you permission to enter her dwelling.
Darsida al-Qawa gives you Cottage Treasury Key.
You recieve 1 million exp.
Darsida al-Qawa tells you, "Please go to my home along the shore south of town. Within you are free to access my treasury and take what you want."
Darsida's home is perched on the cliff edge over looking the inland sea. Modestly decorated with weapons and books, her home is cluttered. The basement holds her treasury.
Use the Cottage Treasury key on the chest to open in. The Treasury chest is similar to the Hea Raider's Cache in that is is possible to pull extremely high quality loot from it. On top of the loot, there are also 2 static items within it. A scroll of Adrenaline Rush, and the Dusty Cloak.
There is a 25% chance there will be an Inquisitor's Mask or racial variant of the Inquisitor's Mask in the treasury as well.
When learned via scroll, Adrenaline Rush is a castable Creature spell that adds +5 to Strength, Endurance, Coordination and Quickness that is stackable. You must be level 55 or greater to learn this spell.
The Dusty Cloak is an al 30 robe with above average protections to all forms of physical attack. You must be level 55 or greater to put on this cloak. It casts Minor Armor, Minor Quickness, Minor Sprint and Minor Impen, has a dif of 150 and a run req of 200.
----------------------------------------
Darsida's Home does not have a Covenant Crystal. However, unless you are granted access to her home, the protection field around it will prevent you from accessing it.
The Locksmithing Token from the Poachers/Brigands is one a 1 week pick up timer.
The Puzzle Piece is on a 1 day timer.
The Bestower's Casting Orb is on a 1 day timer.
There is no timer on the keys needed to open the various doors in the dungeon.
The Adrenaline Rush scroll is a 1 time only spell. It is a no drop/give scroll.
The Dusty Cloak is also one time only, but may be dropped/give and is droppable on death.

name value bu burn rate difficulty restrictions Rogue's Note 0 10 n/a n/a n/a[note: Lore Item] I sat in Qalaba'r one afternoon, listening to the bustle of business while sipping some Sake (had to bring that from Hebian... Desert dwellers don't like it apparently). I find Qalaba'r somewhat relaxing. A busy little burg in the southern grasslands at the gateway to Lugian Country. Its atmosphere is reminiscent of Arwic before the Thorns destroyed it over a year ago. Trading and commerce, people bustling their wares.
The Bestowers Guild chirping on about their latest recruits and successes. The fresh mountain cool mixed with the crisp sea air here to bring about a sense of calm. Today was different however. Between her announcements, Darsida al-Qawa, the head of the ghar'undim branch of the Bestowers guild seemed troubled. Normally, when entering her tent, she smiles and greets you with a sturdy hand shake (one the strongest Aluvian man would wince in pain under) and lets you know of the happenings and goings on of her guild.
Attached to that, she couldn't help but ask me if I knew anyone with a dedicated fancy for locks. Unfortunately, I hadn't the skill to aid her but said I would gladly sent any recruits I could find to her aid.
As the evening set in, I packed my bags and departed for the Marae yet again. The Master requested I be back before mid-eve with some hides for his research and I dared not to cross him. Slinging my tusker pack on my back, I began my slow trek to Zaikhal and from there to Danby's.
Danby was more than pleased to see me. He invited me in, offered my a seat, and set about preparing his latest meatball stodge, all the while his wife in the background couldn't help but surpress a chuckle. I figure she had as much faith in his cooking ability as I had in his ability to not kill me with it.
After a brief dinner, I asked to be excused and retired to the side room they had prepared. They always had a room prepared for the Master's associates. I lit a spare taper with the end of a casting wand I procured earlier in the day. Mattekars have the oddest items tangled in their think coats.
And here, now, I finish this entry. I best plan to sleep in a few moments so that I can arise before dawn and arrive at the Master's hold before he grows anxious. I do worry about his sanity at times...
So with my stomach full of meal and mead, I close this entry and hope his wrath does not get the better of my in the morrow.
