1. Intention with Concept

A pole length weapon meant for gouging and piercing, occasionally used for slashing attacks. Turbine has, however, made such a weapon not so useful, in that its variance and speed leave it considered inferior to other weapons, especially the new Bandit Weapons. Make Spear a viable weapon class, allowing for interesting combat and dynmic damage. Not neccessarily making it the best, but giving it a "cool" trick to make people want to play it. Also give it a "flavor of the month" status, taking some of the limelight away from sword and dagger.

2. Quest Content/Lore

Lugians have recently begun to not only fear for their heritage, but have also started to show interest with friendly relations with Isparian civilization. Recently, 3 Lugian brothers have moved into three of the Isparian Nexus towns. Rumor is however, that a few ventured farther north to the more remote human establishments to entertain business and communication with the more isolated humans.

Town Criers have heralded news that the northern establishments of Stonehold, Castle Neydisa, and the Bandit Castle have each had a new visitor. Each of the new visitors tells a tale of a way to make their Lugian weapon, the Spear of Purity even more powerful, at a price.

Upon arriving in the northern outposts, adventures are told a story of a set specially crafted barbs that can be affixed to the Spear of Purity. Five barbs, five events. However, only 3 of these barb may be attached to the Spear of Purity. The mighty Spear is a symbol of courage and innocence in Lugian culture.

The 5 different barbs would introduce 3 new dungeons and 2 new wilderness spawns.

3. Dungeon: Black Claw Den (restricted level 20+)

Hint recieved from the Bandit Castle.

In the northern ranges surrounding the bandit castle lies the Black Claw Den. A hide out for the new virindi experiment, the Black Claw Drudges. Guhkrok the Lugian Messenger was sent up to this region to investigate their presense and the connection between the Black Claw and the Grotok. His searching was fruitless as he was not familiar with the terrain and the climate being much cooler than the southern mountains.

Adversaries: Drudge Stalkers, Drudge Lurkers, and Drudge Black Claw Raiders.
Boss: Black Claw Den Master
Reward: Lugian Barb of Innocence

4. Dungeon: South Peak Concourse (restricted level 20+)

Hint from Neydisa Castle.

Upon arrival in Neydisa, you are shocked to learn that Ghutro the Lugian Emmissary there had been misled. Ghutros' intent in Neydisa was to find the lair of the Grotok along the coast. He had assumed, that since his brothers had gone north to further search for the Barbs, he too should head north. However, he recieved word from them that the Grotok Lair was indeed along the southern shore [this information gathered via the questioning of the Black Claws found just south of Neydisa enroute to Stonehold]. Disgruntled, Ghutro decided he would remain in Neydisa to inform other visitors of the event. He also complains about mice picking the pyreals from his pocket. He mentions while up here, he had spoken with the Isparian Planar Mage, Celdiseth and had convinced him to create a portal gem to the South Shore Heights near Kara. If given a D Note, Ghutro will be more than happy to give you one his prized gems to ease your travels in search of the second Barb.

Adversaries: Extas/Tiatus Raiders
Boss: Secluded Lugian Commander
Reward
: Lugian Barb of Rage

5. Dungeon: Distressed Vault (restricted level 20+)

Hint from Stonehold.

After your travel from Neydisa, and a lack of adventure at the site, you take a rest for the evening. Upon waking up, you see a Lugian attempting to set up a small shop, but is getting more hinderance from the nearby farm animals. You approach the Lugian [who looks flustered and about ready to give up]. Ghershuk slumps on to the ground and begins to weep. Upon inquisition, you learn that, even though he managed to recover the third Barb of Might, he lost his comrade, Gryjuk the Sure to the combined forces of the Grotok and Black Claw Raiders. He says that if you could bring back some shread of hope that Gryjuk is alive and well, he would reward you with the hook. Ghershuk gives you the directions you need to go to find the lair where his brother was lost. Enter the Distress Vault and return with the Statement of Command and give it to Gryjuk. He will give you the Lugian Barb of Reliance.

Adversaries: Magma golems, Lithos Raiders, Black Claw Raiders
Reward: Lugian Barb of Reliance, Statement of Command

6. Outside Spawn: South Dires Cliff

Hint from Ghershuk

Upon arrival via foot [or the portal at the bottom of the Distressed Vault], you will notice some changes to the portal drop in the South Dires [the South Dires Portal in Mayoi]. The area is littered with Lugian-style furnishings, with a few Lugian shop keepers. In the middle of it all, you'll find Gryjuk. He will tell you that he noticed some odd lights to the south, no doubtedly along the coast. Part of his job was to observe Virindi actions. Apparently they have begun their march into the South Dires Land Bridge. Having already set up an establishment along the bridge, however lacking a portal drop point for them, the Virindi are ushering their legions along the coast. Gryjuk mentions that the honorable carrier of the Barb of Life was one of the first to fall beneath the marching army of the Virindi. So off you go to the South Dires coast. Upon arrival and inspection, you note a Master, a Director, several Tusker Guards, Drudges and Hollow Minions, along with an Enlightened Minion. Death of the Virindi Director trigger the South Desert Spawn of a Virindi Overseer and Grotok Veteran 15 minutes later. The Enlightened Minion will fiercely defend the Director.

Adversaries: Virindi Master, Drudge Raveners, Tusker Guards, Tusker Slaves, Sotoris Hollow Minions
Boss: Virindi Director, Enlightened Minion
Reward: Lugian Barb of Life

Upon the death of the Virindi Director at the first outdoor spawn, this is heard:

"Fatal Purple energy rushes from the collapsed form of the Virindi Director. So strong is the force that all his minions shudder, convulse, and collapse in a heap of straw and chorzite. The Overseer will not be pleased."

Upon that note, the Enlightened Minion and Virindi Director will die and will not respawn until next quest rotation.
This triggers spawn event in southern deserts 15 minutes afterwards.

7. Outdoor Spawn: Puppet Dunes

Hint from Statement of Command

The Statement Lore pushes the group further along, and into the newly altered deserts. Most monsters shy away from this region, however, the Virindi, Marionettes, Dolls, and Sand Sharks have no problems. Even some of the Grotok have ventured briefly into the desert to conduct business with the Virindi. You will confront another outdoor spawn, this time with Dolls replacing Drudges and Marionettes replacing Tuskers. In the center of the mix is an Empowered Overseer flanked by 2 Enlightened Minions talking trade with the Grotok Veteran and 2 Lugian Commanders. Death of Virindi Overseer resets the first outdoor spawn. The Enlightned Minion and Virindi Director will spawn again at first outdoor spawn 30 minutes later.

The Grotok Veteran drops the Lugian Barb of Mastery, the Empowered Overseer drops the Oracle of Prediction and the Innocuous Dolls [in this region only] have a chance of dropping a Chipped Mask.

Adversaries: Enlightened Minions, Innocous Doll, Pristine Dolls, Marionettes, Dark Marionettes, Lugian Commanders (Extas-style)
Boss: Empowered Overseer, Grotok Veteran
Reward: Oracle of Prediction, Lugian Barb of Mastery, A Chipped Mask

Upon death of the Empowered Overseer, this is heard:

"A rush of vaporous energy steams its way through the Lugian consorts, bringing them to their knees. The threat to the southern deserts has been halted, but how long before the next Director is promoted to Overseer?"

Upon that note, the Enlightened Minions, Virindi Overseer, and Lugians all die and will not respawn
until next quest cycle. The Dolls, Marionettes, and Sand Sharks remain however.
This triggers the spawn event in South East dires in 30 minutes.

After the defeat of the Overseer and Grotok Veteran the desert calms. You and your party brace themselves and prepare to journey back to your homes and prepare to go about completeing your revamped spear.

8. Quest Conclusion

Oracle of Prediction

The Oracle of Prediction is coated in sand and dust from the Desert. It needs to be cleansed for its true power to shine. Find a Flask of Water [ can be purchased in most towns]. Use the Flask on the Oracle of Prediction.

"As you pour water over the sullied orb, bright white energy gleams through the cleansed surface!"

Reward: Cleansed Oracle of Prediction

Virindi Shoulder Guard

Make way to Ayan Baqur to visit the Virindi Spy, Leopold. Give Leopold the Chipped Mask.

"I see one of the servants ran errant and damaged itself beyond use. This one shall repair it and make it of more suitable use for our mission."

Reward: Virindi Shoulder Guard

Spear of Purity

Only 3 of the 5 Barbs of Might may be applied to the Spear of Purity.
Once a Barb has been added, it cannot be removed, so choose wisely.
Barb of Innocence must be given to Master Uklas in the Linvak Tukal for Repair.
Barb of Rage must be first repaired by Master Uklas and then have Olthoi Ichor applied to it.
Barb of Reliance must be given to Silencia's Pet Magma Golem in order to have it reshaped.
Barb of Life must be unlocked using the Intricate carving tool and a Lockpick skill check of 200.
Barb of Mastery is in perfect condition and requires nothing but a high spear skill to affix it to the Spear of Purity.
Once your selected barbs have been applied to the Spear, hand the Spear to Master Uklas for finalization. Until you do so the spear will give you this message:

"Until the Spear of Purity's modifications have been properly seated, the enchantments fail to endure."

After applying the Barbs to the Spear of Purity will alter the weapon so that it is effected by a "Crafted by user" restriction. While the weapon remains droppable/giveable, it carries the wield requirement of the player who created it [so that only the one who crafted the weapon with the Barbs may wield the weapon]. All Barbs but the Barb of Mastery are Droppable/giveable.

Quest Timers

  1. All items, with the exception of the Statement of Command article [ obtained from the Distressed Vault Dungeon near Stonehold] are on a 3 week quest timer.
  2. Barbs can be picked up every 3 weeks, but you can only upgrade one Spear of Purity.
  3. The spawn rotation of the outdoor spawns happen as such:
    • After the Virindi Director is defeated in the South Dires, the Desert Spawn will occur 15 minutes later.
    • After the Empowered Overseer is defeated in the A'mun Desert, the South Dires Spawn will occur 30 minutes later.
    • Like the Arm, Heart, Mind Quest Spawns, the secondary monsters (i.e. Enlightened Minion and Grotok Veteran) will continue to respawn every minute until the Boss monster is defeated

Found only in the Black Claw Den in the Lost Wish mountain Range. This Drudge holds in its paws the Lugian Barb of Innocence. While it can cast spells, its mana conversion rate is horrible. It instead relies on the ability to deal powerful attacks. Not particularly hard to damage (it has a moderate armor level), it tends to regenerate at a decent rate.

The Secluded Commander is a pure melee behemoth. He wields a Hollow Lugian Boulders to start, but should he drop to weapon, he will wield either a Hollow Lugian Axe, Mace, or nothing at all. Instead he will batter you with his Fists which are cuffed with hollow bracers. The Commander holds the Lugian Barb of Rage. His Magic Resistance makes him particularly unpopular with Mages. For immediate review.
It has come to the attention of the Council that your brothers have extended their charm to the further reaches of Isparian Society. Need I not remind you all of the concerns we have for our great nation. The Isparians have proven to be hateful and willing to attack any being, regardless of their intentions.

Need The Council not remind you three that it was an Isparian with dealt the death cut to friend Gertarh. Need The Council not remind you that Isparians were the ones who released the giant shadow being upon this world. The Council asks, as always, you remain sharp and keen of your whereabouts.

Now, for the purpose of this issued statement.

Our Tiatus regiment in the South Magic Lands have reported disturbing colors in the night skies. Alvonio has further reported these lights extend into the day and the air along the shore is a mingle of our mined ore and the acrid smell of the abused Tuskers.

It is this council's fear that those who live inbetween are entering not only our territory, but Isparian commonwealth as well. Further concerns exist about the traitorous Grotok sending emmisaries to meet with the In-betweeners.

It is thus the order of the Council that Observation and intervention along the South Magic Land shore be established. If the need for violence is felt to halt the invasion of the Portal Walkers and their minions, do so.

Should you also run across Isparian pioneers and warriors in said region, please offer warning. If the Isparians in question look especially able, suggest they investigate as well, as they as a people have much interest in what occurs in their Desert Lands.

That is all.

Thus the Statement is ended.
